Archery FAQ
By Brendan Yu
How often does archery club meet per week and for how long?
The archery club meets Monday Wednesday and Fridays from 6 am to 9 am for indoor practices. Saturday and Sundays the team meets outdoors at Mile Square Park from 11 am to 3 pm.
Is archery a safe sport?
Yes! In fact archery is one of the safest sports that any individual can participate in. The club makes every effort to go over the safety rules with members, and take extra precaution in order to ensure that members don't shoot themselves. Finally, drawing a bow back takes an exceptional amount of force, so unless you're purposely trying to shoot yourself, there's no reason you should be hurt.
How often are archery classes at the ARC offered and how much do they cost?
Classes are offered every quarter and are available to both members and non-members of the ARC. Outside of the regular 10 week cycle, summer camp runs for 4 weeks at the cost of $80 to members of the ARC and $90 to nonmembers. For $45 a quarter, students can partake in the recreational aspects of the club.
Will the archery club provide equipment to members or will I need to provide my own?
For recreational members, the club tends to provide equipment, although they aren’t exactly the best quality. General members are given fiberglass arrows, which cost approximately 50 cents per arrow. Competitive members are expected to pay for their own equipment, which is exponentially greater than the cost of equipment for regular members. For example, the arrows used by competitive club members run as high as $30 per arrow, and are usually bought by the dozen. That equates to anywhere between $200 and $400 for a case of arrows.
Are members required to attend every practice?
Absolutely not! The members of the archery club understand that as college students education is generally your first priority (and rightfully so). Competitive and recreation members are both free to come and go to club practices as they please, but officers are required to stay for the full duration of each practice.
